Date & Time
October 9, 2024 ; 10h00 - 11h00 CEST
Speakers
- Anna Volkova, PhD, Professor at Tallinn University of Technology
- Igor Krupenski, CEO at Enerhack
- Siim Umbleja, Managing director at Estonian Power and District Heating Association
Description
In this webinar, we will discover key insights into energy efficiency in district heating and cooling, including trends in heat consumption, simulation tools for carbon reduction, and the impact of efficiency labels on sustainable energy systems.
This event will bring together three key expert speakers:
Presentation 1 - Energy Efficiency Indicators for the Heat Supply Sector
Speaker: Anna Volkova, PhD, Professor at Tallinn University of Technology
Heating and cooling account for half of Europe's energy consumption, with most of this thermal energy used in buildings and industry. In this presentation, the trends in heat production and consumption across EU member states are compared with the EU average, alongside key indicators of heat consumption. Based on data from the ODYSSEE database, the main drivers of energy consumption at the EU level have also been examined.
Presentation 2 - CommitClimate: Empowering Cities with Simulation Tools for Carbon Reduction and Energy Planning
Speaker: Igor Krupenski, CEO at Enerhack
The CommitClimate project assists cities and municipalities in designing sustainable energy and climate action plans to reduce their carbon footprint. Through the development and utilisation of a computer-based simulation tool, the project enables local governments to calculate current CO2 emissions and model future scenarios for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This user-friendly tool ensures that even non-technical users can effectively plan for climate neutrality. By equipping municipal staff and stakeholders with the knowledge to address energy transition challenges, CommitClimate supports informed decision-making and helps communities progress towards a sustainable, low-carbon future.
Presentation 3: Energy Efficiency Labels for District Heating and Cooling Systems
Speaker: Siim Umbleja, Managing director at Estonian Power and District Heating Association
This presentation delves into the role of energy efficiency labels in district heating and cooling systems, highlighting their importance in promoting sustainability and reducing energy consumption. It discusses the significance of standardized labelling systems in informing consumers and stakeholders about the environmental impact and performance of these systems. The presentation covers key criteria for energy efficiency labels, their benefits in enhancing transparency, and the challenges in implementation. By drawing on real-world examples, it demonstrates how these labels can drive the transition to greener, more efficient district energy networks, contributing to broader climate goals.
