Pavel Sevela, University of Innsbruck
Description
Energy efficiency and renewables are the two mantras of the energy performance of buildings, but what about the energy that can be recovered from ventilation and wastewater? Speakers present research on the potential of wastewater heat recovery and discuss the integration of recovered energy into the calculation of the energy performance of buildings.
Pavel Sevela presents a study on the potential of waste water heat recovery systems (WWHRS) in reducing the energy demand for water heating in the EU in a cost-efficient way. He will introduce the principle of WWHR and the different systems available. He quantifies the benefits in term of energy, costs and emissions at household level depending on the climate zone and the benefits at EU level for the renovation wave and the energy efficiency target (More info: full study, short paper).
Laurent Socal introduces the EN-EPD standards and propose an approach for the adequate consideration of recovered energy into CEN standards and national calculation methods for the energy performance of buildings. (More info into the REHVA Journal 02/2023: Shower drain heat recovery – an introduction)
