The Hard-to-Reach Energy Users Task is finishing up its first phase, after four years of defining and characterising, in-depth, who these so-called HTR energy users were, in both the residential and non-residential sectors. The Task also delved deeply into how countries have tried to engage those HTR energy users, undertaking both case study analyses and cross-country comparisons, as well as a methodology review of different engagement strategies. The Task consistently followed the “Building Blocks of Behaviour Change” process, to co-design, implement and evaluate several field research pilots targeting HTR energy users in New Zealand, the US and Canada. This webinar will summarise all the headline findings from this extensive research, and aims to answer the important question: “Are the majority (estimated by this research to be at least 2/3 of energy users) of energy users really “hard-to-reach”? Or are we simply not doing enough to support them better?” The answer to this question will be explored in the recently approved Phase 2 of the Task, which will look at addressing the underlying systemic and structural causes for energy injustice and why so many energy users (want to) remain “hidden” from our well-meaning intentions to help them change their behaviours.
